RVPD Media Log                            May 1 through May 7, 2016

This media log highlights some of the activity RVPD officers have been involved with during the past week:

During the period of May1 through May 7, 2016 RVPD Officers responded to 82 calls for service.  Officers also conducted an additional 115 public contacts. 

On 5/07/2016 at 2009 hours, Rio Vista Police Officers were requested to assist Vacaville Police Department with a vehicle pursuit that was approaching the city limits.  The pursued vehicle was a maroon Chevrolet Silverado that was reported stolen from Kern County.  Rio Vista officers staged and positioned a vehicle on Drouin Drive at State Route 12.  Another RVPD officer staged and positioned his patrol vehicle on Hillside Terrace at State Route 12.  Officers blocked roadway access to State Route 12 as a preventive measure to ensure public safety.  Officers then observed a maroon Chevrolet Silverado driving at a high rate of speed through the intersection of State Route 12 and Drouin Drive.  Officers engaged in the pursuit and followed behind the Chevrolet traveling eastbound on State Route 12.

The Chevrolet continued to travel eastbound on State Route 12 entering the Rio Vista Bridge.  The Chevrolet drove through the lowered traffic crossing arms and continued to travel eastbound.  The Chevrolet then collided with the steel road barricades stopping and disabling the vehicle.

A felony traffic stop was conducted by Rio Vista Police, Vacaville Police, and Solano County Sheriff Deputies.  The driver and three other subjects were removed from the vehicle and placed under arrest by Vacaville Police.  All occupants of the vehicle were under the age of 18.  State Route 12 remained closed for approximately 4 hours while Caltrans conducted repairs to lower the damaged barricades.  Traffic was rerouted during this period and a sig-alert was activated.

On 5/06/2016 at 1849 hours, officers were alerted to a hit and run collision that had just occurred on State Route 12 at Highway 160.  Information provided indicated three vehicles were involved with unknown injuries.  As this information came out, a citizen flagged down an officer and relayed similar information.  The officer then observed a vehicle on State Route 12 with significant front end damage and it appeared to be having mechanical problems, consistent with a recent collision.  The officer conducted a traffic stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver.  He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and leaving the scene of a collision.  The other officer on duty responded to the collision scene and assisted with triage of involved people.  One person suffered minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.

On 5/06/2016 at 1653 hours, officers were requested to assist with locating a vehicle within the city.  An officer located the vehicle near South Second and California Streets.  The occupants were contacted and agreed to a consent search.  One vehicle occupant, Monique Lynch, age 51 from Rio Vista was found in possession of suspected methamphetamine.  Lynch was issued a citation and released with her promise to appear in Solano County Court.  Lynch was advised the other co-owner of the vehicle requested it to be returned.

On 5/06/2016 at 1232 hours, an office was contacted at RVPD for a fraud report.  Fraudulent charges were discovered after a credit card bill was received.  The credit card is in the possession of the authorized user and the credit card information was used without consent to make purchases.

On 5/05/2016 at 1130 hours, an officer observed a vehicle fail to make a complete stop at an intersection on N. Fifth Street.  The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver, Kenneth Mazzuola, age 52 from Isleton.  Mazzuola was determined to have a suspended driver license.  Mazzuola was issued a citation for the violation and released on his promise to appear in Solano County Court.

On 5/04/2016 at 1406 hours, officers responded to a residence on Timber Creek Drive on a report of a missing person.  While conducting the investigation, the missing person arrived home and was in good health.

On 5/04/2016 at 0647 hours, officers were dispatched to a residence on Desert Forest Drive regarding a report of an assault that had taken place during the night.  Officers determined the victim had left the area and was at a location in Fairfield.  Officers then went to Fairfield to check the welfare of the victim and get her statement.  The victim had a bruise on her elbow but refused to cooperate with giving a statement or providing any details of the incident.

On 5/03/2016 at 1607 hours, officers were dispatched to a non-injury collision at the Post Office on Sacramento Street.  Officers determined a driver made an unsafe turn into the driveway and hit the front end of a vehicle on the street.  A report was generated to document the incident.

On 5/03/2016 at 0001 hours, an officer observed a vehicle on State Route 12 with a headlamp not operating during darkness.  The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver, Willie Hines.  Hines was determined not to have a valid driver license.  Hines was issued a citation for the violations and released on his promise to appear in Solano County Court.

On 5/02/2016 at 0016 hours, an officer observed a vehicle being operated at an unsafe speed on State Route 12.  The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver, Myles Tomerlin, age 27 from Berkeley.  Tomerlin was determined to have a suspended driver license and two citable warrants.  Tomerlin was issued a citation for the driving violations and released on his promise to appear in Solano County Court.  He was also issued a citation with new court appearance dates for the warrants.

On 5/01/2016 at 1851 hours, an officer observed a vehicle being operated at an unsafe speed on State route 12.  The officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop of the vehicle and contacted the driver, Alisha Suarez, age 26 from Hayward.  Suarez was issued a citation for the violations and released on her promise to appear in Solano County Court.
